The Rock Safe Team | April 20, 2021 @ 12:00 AM

At Rock Safe Self Storage, we love living and working in Arroyo Grande. Arroyo Grande is a beautiful city within San Luis Obispo County that has a population of about 18,000. The city is warm year-round, close to the beach, and has plenty of things to do.

This is wine country where we take pride in our art scene, creativity, and the natural beauty all around us.

Here are some outstanding places to visit whether you live here or are visiting.

Laetitia Vineyard and Winery

We’ll start with some local wineries. Laetitia Vineyard and Winery is a company that specializes in sparkling wines, pinot noirs, chardonnays, and other estate wines. Go in for a tasting and enjoy the gorgeous view of the Pacific Ocean and the surrounding hills and vineyards. If you like their wine, join their club and get 20% off wines and access to member events.

Talley Vineyards

Are you looking for a large variety of wines? Talley Vineyards produces pinots, chardonnays, syrahs, Grenaches, sauvignon blancs, rieslings, and other popular wine varieties. You can enjoy sipping in their large tasting room. Yes, they also have a wine club, and this one gives you early access to single-vineyard wines.

Kynsi Winery

If you like rare things, check out Kynsi Winery. They specialize in limited-production wines, so you’re bound to find something special. Their wines include chardonnays, pinots, rhones, and various blends. Naturally, Kynsi Winery has a wine club. Theirs has three levels, so you can pick the one that works best for you. Each includes discounts, and you’ll get to enjoy club wine packages. As more people get vaccinated against COVID, look for their tasting room to reopen.

Biddle Regional Park

Though not in Arroyo Grande, Biddle Regional Park is so close it may as well be. It’s only five miles away from downtown and is a lovely place to visit any time of year. Have a picnic, play some sports, or host a party here. The park has horseshoe pits and volleyball courts as well as a lot of beautiful grassy areas.

Dinosaur Caves Park

Just west of Arroyo Grande is a charming park overlooking the Pacific Ocean and Pismo Beach. Dinosaur Caves Park is a seven-minute drive away from Arroyo Grande and a wonderful place to take your kids. This 11-acre destination has a large playground, grassy areas where you can picnic or play games, plus picnic tables and hiking trails. Take a walk or jog with a friend, or walk your dog here.

The playground has some fun features, including various statues. These include a dinosaur, two dolphins, three seals, and three dinosaur eggs.

Pismo Beach

We mentioned how Dinosaur Caves Park overlooks Pismo Beach, so let’s cover the beach itself. With Arroyo Grande so close to the beach, we encourage you to head down. Pismo Beach is a great place to surf, swim, and relax.

Wait, you don’t know how to surf? That’s all right. Nearby, Sandbar Surf School and Central Coast Surf School give lessons.

Also, for $20 per person wine lovers can take part in the Pismo Beach Wine Tasting Experience. This is an excellent opportunity to learn more about the area, the beach, and to enjoy several tasty wines.

Pismo Beach Monarch Butterfly Grove

Drive to the Pismo Beach area between October and February and you can enjoy a wonderful site. During that time of year, over 10,000 migrating monarch butterflies fill the Pismo Beach Monarch Butterfly Grove. These gorgeous orange and red butterflies settle on the Eucalyptus trees and brighten up the grove.

Of course, the park is also fun to visit regardless of the time of year, but during butterfly season, kids and adults can enjoy learning about the monarchs at educational booths.

Clark Center for the Performing Arts

A fantastic theater, Clark Center for the Performing Arts shows family-friendly entertainment from plays to science shows with professional actors, hosts cultural events, and more. The audience section has six seating areas, so you can pick your favorite type of spot. Before a show, spend some time in the grand lobby and check out pictures by local artists.

Clark Center for the Performing Arts helps in the community as well. They perform at elementary schools in the Lucia Mar Unified School District, encouraging an interest in the arts and science. By attending shows, you can help them continue their excellent work.

Mustang Waterpark

In an area that gets as hot as Arroyo Grande, the beach is a good place to cool down, but so is a waterpark. Mustang Waterpark is a great place to hop on some waterslides, relax in the shade, and spend time with your pals or your family. Rent one of their shady cabanas and grab something delicious at their snack bar, like a hot dog, burger, salad, nachos, or ice cream. This is also a fun place to host a birthday party.

Lopez Lake Regional Area

Did we mention that Mustang Waterpark is in Lopez Lake Recreation Area? Well, it is, and many visit the waterpark during a camping trip. Lopes Lake Recreational Area is a San Luis Obispo County park with hiking, camping, and a 22-mile shoreline.

Here, you can also go boating, fishing, running, horse riding, and even zip-lining. The park has 350 campsites in the woods and around the lake, and you’ll find a lot of trails, picnic areas with barbeques, and more. RV owners will find full hook-up campsites.
