Giving Thanks in San Luis Obispo County
While you may be dreaming of feasting on turkey and stuffing surrounded by loved ones in your warm, inviting home, others may be grappling with hunger, poverty, and homelessness.
The annual News Channel 12 Turkey Drive is gearing up to help feed families this Thanksgiving season. News Channel 12 and the SLO Food Bank are partnering once again to help provide holiday meals for those in need.
On Tuesday, November 14th, on-site donations will be collected from 6am to 7pm. Stop by the California Fresh Market or Vons locations listed below where you can donate a turkey, non-perishable food, or make a financial contribution.
Vons OR California Fresh Market
3900 Broad Street 555 5 Cities Drive
San Luis Obispo Pismo Beach
For an in-person monetary donation, purchase a “turkey buck” at Grocery Outlets in San Luis Obispo, Arroyo Grande, or Los Osos or visit California Fresh Markets in San Luis Obispo or Pismo Beach through November 30th. These turkey bucks will help fund holiday proteins for those in need.
Prefer to make a financial donation online? Your support will strengthen the SLO Food Bank’s hunger-relief network. Visit the Turkey Drive website at donate.slofoodbank.org to contribute to the SLO Food Bank.
The SLO Food Bank, a nonprofit organization, serves all of San Luis Obispo County with a goal of alleviating hunger and building a healthier community.
With this season of gratitude upon us, take a break from the craziness often brought about by the holidays. Stop combing through those storage bins of holiday decorations. It’s a time to unplug, breathe, and reflect on our blessings.
We have so much to be thankful for.
